Divine Nine leaders, including Phi Beta Sigma International Director of Social Action, Bro. Dr. Errick Farmer, visit with local families and children during a Compassion International community engagement experience in the Dominican Republic.
Demonstrating a shared commitment to service, leadership, and global impact, Bro. Dr. Errick Farmer, International Director of Social Action for Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., joined fellow Divine Nine leaders on a transformative visit to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, in partnership with Compassion International.
The delegation spent several days engaging with children, families, educators, and community leaders to witness firsthand the life-changing work accomplished through Compassion International’s child development and poverty-alleviation programs.
Through community visits, educational tours, and direct interactions with sponsored children and their families, the delegation gained valuable insight into the challenges facing underserved communities and the opportunities that emerge when strategic partnerships are rooted in compassion, empowerment, and sustainable development.
“Service transcends borders,” said Bro. Dr. Farmer. “My experience in the Dominican Republic reminded me that real change occurs when we invest in people, support families, and create opportunities for children to thrive. I witnessed resilience, hope, and the transformative power of community.”
The visit included tours of Compassion International-supported programs, classroom observations, meetings with local leaders, and opportunities to engage directly with children participating in educational and enrichment activities.
One of the most impactful moments occurred during visits to community centers where children received educational support, nutritional assistance, and mentorship opportunities.
Delegation members observe and participate in Compassion International’s child development programming as children participate in educational and nutritional support activities designed to foster growth, learning, and long-term success.
I observed firsthand how local partnerships are helping children build brighter futures while strengthening families and entire communities.
The experience reinforced the shared values between Compassion International and the Divine Nine organizations—service, education, leadership development, and community uplift. Leaders discussed future opportunities to increase awareness of global poverty, expand volunteer engagement, and strengthen international service initiatives.
“As leaders, we are called to not only witness challenges but to become part of the solution,” added Dr. Farmer. “The work being done by Compassion International serves as a reminder that collective action can create lasting impact for generations to come.”
The visit represents another step in advancing meaningful partnerships that address safe communities, educational access, economic opportunity, family well-being, and youth development on a global scale.
